Smart IT for all: Leveraging Microsoft Azure

Data in a CSV file

I’ve recently been working with a client in the process of scaling up. We were working on a project deploying Azure SQL services and Power BI visualisations to allow them to productise their offer to clients with a secure and highly consumable way to understand complex concepts at play over the lifetime of a proposed infrastructure design.

Upon my initial workshop with the client, I was surprised by the current solution to be enhanced.

Data analysis on a single dataset was performed by a team of engineers across multiple standalone copies of the same SQL databases running on their desktops. If an engineer made a change to the data or added a new table or view to the database – this change was then manually duplicated in the other engineer’s database. In a process riddled with duplication and error, they were emailing the changes to each other in CSV format – in 2023, this is still the norm in many businesses.

In this case, the business saw having a connected corporate network for multiple locations and a consolidated SQL server for engineers to work with as too expensive and only something a large enterprise would have. Our ultimate solution gave them the consolidated SQL server and connectivity in a model that made sense to their business and budget using Azure.

In this blog post, we'll explore how growing businesses can leverage Azure to their advantage and how Hosted.Tech can help.

Cost Savings:

Azure offers a pay-as-you-go model, making it cost-effective for businesses to access enterprise-level IT solutions without the high upfront costs. This is especially beneficial for small businesses that may not have the financial resources to invest in expensive IT infrastructure.

Scalability:

Azure's scalability enables businesses to easily scale up or down as needed, allowing them to meet changing demands without incurring additional costs. This scalability also allows small businesses to be more agile and responsive to market changes.

Security:

Security is a crucial consideration for businesses dealing with sensitive data, and Azure offers robust security features to protect against cyber threats. Azure has advanced security features such as multi-factor authentication, role-based access control, and data encryption. Additionally, Azure complies with an exhaustive list of regulatory standards, making it an ideal choice for businesses that handle sensitive data.
